There were a number of subplots to what would be a great day for the Reds. I was surprised that I hadn’t heard more media hype about Dimitar Berbatov coming to Old Trafford. Usually The Sun would be completely consumed with catalyzing transfer gossip, however it seems that a new manager and the complete dismantling of Arsenal the previous week was enough to qualm any creative rumors. In the build up to the game, I heard more about Juan Ramos’ refusal to open a bottle of red wine if his side lost, than I did about the Bulgarian’s supposed transfer.
With the first half of the season completed, it is now time to analyze how well Roma have performed during the campaign thus far. Overall I am happy with the quality of their performances. They have achieved their main objectives, not leaving much to be unhappy about, except a few incidents which may be a minor cause for concern.
What’s up with him these days? Reportedly he has joined Sao Paolo on loan to get back to form and rebuild his career. He lost his way when his father died and since then it has been straight down hill for him. The solution so far has been the problem, and relying on partying and alcohol have gotten in the way of Adriano becoming one of the world’s deadliest strikers, something that was beyond a doubt a few years ago.
I have been a United fan for as long as I can remember, which in footballing terms stretches back to the evening of May 21, 1977 in Malaysia, when my father sat me down in front of a small black and white screen and told me about the team in the lighter jerseys, and how they were the underdogs and the team they were playing against were going for a historical treble. Though fans of Manchester United can have no major qualms with the progression of our two fresh young talents in Anderson and Nani (after witnessing their rapid development who could complain), looking back I cannot help but think of what could have been during the summer transfer window of 2007. It is a widely held belief that both these young guns will be the eventual successors of the legendary Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, but looking back one has to wonder if the right men from Brazil and Portugal were selected for the task at hand.
