AC Milan vs. Manchester United
UEFA Champions League
San Siro
16. 02. 2010

Match Preview:

After finishing top of Group B in the Champions League group stage, Manchester United will resume their continental campaign with a trip to Milan, where they will face AC Milan, in perhaps the most anticipated tie of the round. Whereas United navigated their group relatively easily, AC Milan found themselves in a much tougher group, where they eventually finished second to Real Madrid, qualifying by only two points, over Marseille of France.

Since the end of the group stage however, AC Milan have seemingly overcome their shaky beginnings, and have found good form in the league. Winning all but four of their last ten games, two of which they lost, Milan are starting to see much better form from their players, in particular Ronaldinho, who has showed signs at different times this season of reemerging as the brilliant footballer he is obviously capable of being.

United too find themselves in a very good run of form. Despite only earning a point against Aston Villa, United will be pleased with the quality of their performance. Despite being forced to play with ten men for the better part of 70 minutes, after a rash Nani challenge, United controlled the game and looked the most likely to break the deadlock. Villa result aside though, recent weeks have brought big wins on numerous occasions as United finally look to be hitting their best form. (more…)

Carling Cup Semi Final Leg #2

27. 01. 10

Match Preview:
With a terrific 4-0 win against Hull last Saturday, United will come into this important second leg of the Carling Cup semi finals with renewed vigor as they look to overcome a one goal deficit and book their place in a second consecutive Carling Cup final. Despite eventually succumbing to two Tevez goals and losing 2-1, United will feel that they deserved more from the game, particularly considering the vital part the referee played in both goals. In addition, United will surely expect a little more luck in front of goal after some fantastic saves from Given and goal line clearances denied them their equalizer. (more…)

Match Preview:
Four days after United’s unfortunate and somewhat unjust loss to Manchester City at Eastlands, United will return to the Theatre of Dreams to take on Hull City. With Arsenal and Chelsea both ahead by one point (Chelsea have a game in hand), United could potentially spring to top spot with a positive result, if only temporarily, which would surely boost morale in the United camp after some erratic performances, and off the field concern with the club’s financial difficulties. Manchester United vs. Burnley – Match Preview

Manchester United vs. Burnley

Barclays English Premier League
16. 01. 10

Match Preview:
It would be fair to say that the last few weeks have been tumultuous ones for Burnley fans. The shock departure of ex manager Owen Coyle to Bolton has left many Burnley fans disoriented and disappointed, after what has been a good first half of the season for the relegation candidates. Whilst they have performed admirably thus far this season, the loss of Coyle, a manager’s whose insistence on disciplined football has steered them clear of the relegation zone so far, will undoubtedly hurt the Clarets, and the fans will be more than anxious to see how their players react. Most impotantly however, it will give Burnley fans an opportunity to see how new manager Brian Laws, a shock appointment, copes against an opposition of a much higher quality. Burnley will be keen to perform for their new manager and will be hopeful of taking all three points as they did when these two sides met at Turf Moor in the second game of the season, a game in which United’s inability to break down a disciplined defense lead to a surprising 1-0 win to the home side.

Having recently travelled to Qatar for a brief period of four days, United’s players will hopefully be refreshed after getting in four very good training sessions at the excellent facilities at ASPIRE Academy for Sports Excellence. Ferguson labeled the trip a success, as it provided the team with a great opportunity to escape the bitter cold in England, and prepare themselves thoroughly for the remainder of the season. (more…)

Match Preview:
After the postponement of Manchester United’s Carling Cup semi final at Eastlands, the Red Devils have had a little longer to mull over the disappointment of last Sundays FA Cup tie against Leeds than they would have perhaps liked. Thankfully, there seems little chance of a similar postponement on Saturday, with Birmingham expressing great confidence that the game will indeed be played as planned:

Quote:
“Discussions have taken place with the local authorities, the emergency services and the Premier League and there is nothing to prevent the match taking place at present.

The club’s undersoil heating system means there are no problems at all with the pitch. Blues will continue to talk to the relevant authorities and monitor weather reports.”

Manchester United vs. Leeds United – Match Preview

Manchester United vs. Leeds United

FA Cup
03. 01. 2010

Match Preview:
This Sunday the F.A Cup will reignite a fierce rivalry between Manchester United and Leeds United. Although the two sides have not played each other since 2004, and two divisions now separate the two clubs, the rivalry between the two remains as intense as it ever has. Matches between the two have traditionally been very tense and tight affairs. A quick looks at results between the two sides since the 1998-1999 season shows that United have won a total of eight games out of thirteen, whilst the sides have drawn four meaning Leeds have only enjoyed one solitary win over Manchester United in the last 10 years. Given the vast gulf in quality which now separates the sides, United will obviously be confident of their progress into the fourth round of the oldest cup competition in football, however, the FA Cup is famous for the upsets it inevitably brings every season. Facing a Leeds United side who will be driven on by their 9,000 travelling fans and desperate to embarrass one of their oldest rivals in a rare opportunity to restore some pride into a club which has fallen so far over the last few years, United will have to approach this game professionally to see off their old rivals, and secure progress to the next round. Video of the Day: The Welsh Wizard strikes again

Well, he didn’t really score, but what a marvelous performance by the eternal young Ryan Giggs. After a thrilling performance against fierce rivals Manchester City, setting up 3 of the 4 goals scored by United, Giggsy has found strength to break down Stoke City’s resistance and managed two more assists to get us the whole 3 points from a very tricky fixture.

I invite you to enjoy a video tribute to Sir (hopefully) Ryan Giggs:

United Stoked With Two Goals

Its yet another win for the Red Devils today as they brushed a strong Stoke City team aside, with two nice goals from Dimatar Berbatov and an unlikely suspect in Irishman, John O’Shea. Ryan Giggs, introduced for a poor Nani in the second half, changed the game completly and led United to a deserved three points.
