| Rio eyes management role Rio eyes management role Quote:
Rio Ferdinand has revealed he could join the list of ex-Manchester United players to follow legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson into management.
Four current Barclays Premier League bosses played under Ferguson at United while Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took their Uefa 'A' badges this summer.
Ferdinand may have missed out on the England captaincy but skippered United with distinction last season and Ferguson has lauded the 29-year-old defender's leadership qualities.
"I love football so I'm sure I'll be involved in the game in one way, shape or form," said Ferdinand.
Future plans
"As I get older, management seems the direction that I'd like to see myself in."
Ferdinand helped United keep a clean sheet on Monday as they beat Portsmouth 1-0 to record their first win of the season.
The defending champions must now wait three weeks for their next league fixture away to Liverpool due to their Uefa Super Cup clash and the opening World Cup qualifiers.
And Ferdinand believes United will face competition from the usual suspects once they resume their title defence.
"I think you can't really look past the normal teams who are about, the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea," he added.
"Those three are definitely going to be involved in one way, shape or form, so as I say, you can't really look too far past them.
"There's usually one team that comes out of the woodwork, last year it was Everton. Who knows? It might be them again or it might be someone else. Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | Manchester United | Rio eyes management role | I rate Rio as a leader. I was disappointed when he wasnt made england captain but i think he would make a good manager given the experience he had. At one point it really did look like his career had gone to waste when he missed that drug ban but when he came back he was sharp.
There have been a fair few ex-united players that played under fergie and gone to become managers.
Who out of the current squad do you see as being a manager one day? |

| Re: Rio eyes management role ha ha . Would be extremely funny to see him not being funny . He tries a lot to be serious . But that makes me only laugh .
Jokes apart . He could be good . Better than the players who pass out from any other top club .
Sir Alex Ferguson is a University ! |

| Re: Rio eyes management role I'll allow him as manager, only under the condition that he rocks the fro at all times
personally I think he'd be shite as a manager, but I've always had doubts about his level of steel and ability put fear in the eyes of his players. He's always been a bit of a trickster, that said Kevin Keegan is a clown and he seems to be doing positive things for Newcastle.

| Re: Rio eyes management role You could just imagine team talk after they lose 3-0 to some shit club like liverpool.
"lads.......you've just been merked! "
I do think that a couple of people will fear him. He is very light hearted but this can be pretty angry too. I remember some time last season, we won the game then he gave nani the hair dryer treatment just after the final whistle when everyone was celebrating. |

| Re: Rio eyes management role hahahaha, i'm looking forword to see Rio as a manager, i think it would be a touchline show with him around, but after all those years beside SAF how to not think of managin, with all the things and tactics that you learn from him everyday, it's great i think, it really is.
fingers corossed for Rio, and why not maybe one day will drive us to new titles as a manager.

| Re: Rio eyes management role In all honesty, its impossible to tell at his early stage whether or not he'd be a good manager.
But he is certainly a great leader (should have been made England Captain but why do I care? ) and has certainly got great experience.
However, we don't know what his managerial/coaching skills are going to be like.
But on a side note, isn't it a bit early for him to be discussing management?

| Re: Rio eyes management role Hmmm...I'm not hooked on the idea of Rio being a manager. He is a fantastic player and has really shown his leadership capabilities in the last year. He's ability to overcome adversity will certainly help him, as will his determination...
but i agree with manutd004, its way to early to be contemplating the type of manager Rio will be, but all the same, I hope that he's successful should he take up management. |

| Re: Rio eyes management role Maybe its me, but I see nothing wrong with this.
If Rio is talking about a career in management after playing, to me it indicates that he wants to do his coaching badges/certification now. He can do this during his downtime and it:
a. keeps him out of trouble.
b. further enhances his footballing IQ because he'll be seeing and learning the game from another prospective.
c. benefits United players who will be getting more coaching from players who have or are in the process of getting there coaching badges.
And that is a good thing.
Best of luck to Rio in this department. I've read that getting your badges/certification isn't easy at all, so it will be great test for him.

| Re: Rio eyes management role Only time will tell. I think there's nothing wrong in getting his coaching badge. It will bring only benefits, once Rio is our next captain.
Rio is a funny guy. He likes to play jokes and I would rather see United being coached by someone who likes jokes, than a serious puff like Mourinho or Del Bosque.

| Re: Rio eyes management role it would be funny to see him go jeremy beadle on players in training; (long may he rest).
i think he would be a great manager, and prove the critics who say he isnt a good leader wrong.
other players from our team i could see being a manager.
Gary Neville
Giggs (assistant)
Scholes i dont think so, hes a bit too quiet.
cant think of any other players who are old enough to tell |
