    Default Vidic makes United pledge

It's about time a United player told other clubs to take a hike.

What is also pleasing is this bit:

"My wife Ana is unhappy with our lifestyle in Manchester but I am not going to change my mind as I am happy with the team and Manchester and the club's ambition for next season"

It's amazing how much influence a wife or family member has on a player's future. These players get paid a great sum to ply their trade. To complain about a lifestyle, when you are living better than 99% of the population is laughable.

Thank goodness Vidic has some sense.

Nemanja Vidic has revealed he has received offers from AC Milan, Real Madrid and Barcelona but will spurn their advances to stay at Manchester United.

The Serbian stopper has established himself as one of the continent's finest defenders since moving to Old Trafford and his domineering presence at the heart of United's backline has not gone unnoticed elsewhere.
A trio of Europe's top clubs are keen on the 27-year-old but although Vidic concedes his wife is unhappy in Manchester, he is adamant he will see out his contract that runs until 2012.

After losing Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid and Carlos Tevez having also departed, Sir Alex Ferguson is determined no other top stars will be moved on.

While his wife may not be happy with his decision, Vidic, who has received a significant pay increase to fend off interest from elsewhere, is going nowhere.

"My wife Ana is unhappy with our lifestyle in Manchester but I am not going to change my mind as I am happy with the team and Manchester and the club's ambition for next season," he told The Sun.

"I got offers from Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid and I played a very honest game - I disclosed all these offers to my boss Sir Alex.

"He reacted quickly. I was told he was raising my pay to bring it to the level where my reputation is in the Premier League and Europe.

"After Milan and Real Madrid made their offers Barcelona came in - they wanted to pay £30million for my services but after Sir Alex's move, I am definitely staying in Manchester until my contract expires in 2012.

"I don't care that I will still not be paid as much as my good friends Rio Ferdinand or Wayne Rooney but I guess I will be at the same level as Berbatov or Carrick."

I get what you're saying. It's laughable when you hear footballers complain given the money they are earning. Especially when they talk about "suffering" and "misery", two words used by a stocky little Argentine to describe his time at Utd the other day.

But........(you knew there'd be a but)............What's the point in making tons of money if the person you love the most is miserable as a result? Especially when you can make the same or more moving to a place where your own personal ambitions continue to be matched and said loved one is much happier.

A timely reminder of the repellent effect Northern England has on virtually any one not from there.

In cases like this we are dependent on the integrity and loyalty of the player and it's clear in this case that Vidic has endeared himself to the fans further.

    Finally, some integrity.

I can see why people would complain, obviously the weather wouldn't be great in Manchester...but come on, a football career lasts until you 35 tops. That's still very ypung and gives all these player years and years to go and live wherever they want, with all the money they'll ever need.

I get that the weather isn't great, all I'm saying is, there is plenty of time for the finer things in life after you've finished up.

Anyways, great to see such loyalty from Vidic. He obviously believes in this team and it's great to see.

I understand the WAGS have influence but let's get real for a minute. They can travel and visit these places any time. If I was the footballer I'd probably take into consideration these things but there are other factors as well that even normal people can relate to. I'm sure anyone here that's had any type of career knows what it might be like working for a competitor. If I was at United and I saw the likes of Madrid changing coaches every year (or less) and the unstability in a club like that I'd be hesitent. Look at M Diarra. Once the hot property, now an after thought. Or ask Schnieders wife what she thinks about living in Madrid. Isn't he out running around on her all the time with the wild Madrid nightlife?

If I were Vidic I'd tell my wife (which it sounds like he did) 'I'm happy here. This is at or near the top of the footballing world. We'll move where ever you want in about 5 years or less when my playing career is over.' She better try and keep him happy or I'm sure the line of amazing women wanting to make a professional footballer happy will.

I agree with you on the first part. But there's an awfully cynical and arguably misogynistic statement at the end there. I'd venture that what makes a woman "amazing" is not her looks or willingness to please.

Very true about the career of Schneijder although M. Diarra was a first team player until his serious injury. I wouldn't be surprised if he still has a big part to play.

It's not misogynistic, well not that much. It's the truth to an extent, its reality. First off, I think when I say amazing you have a good idea what I mean. I'm talking physically "amazing". We've seen very average to downright ugly footballers with unbelievably attractive women. And if you want to talk about amazing from the angle you're referring to then shouldn't she be happy to be where her husband is happy and makes extremely high wages (compared to normal Joes)? I think so. A move to Spain or Italy might make her happy but what if her man has a rough go. Sounds a bit selfish. Now I hate her!

I’m glad he’s staying strictly because we shown we need 3 CB’s. If we had another Evans….I’d say sell him on for a fee of 30+ million. I know its heresy.

Translation: "My wife is not happy, but fuck her.... I'm staying".

Not even his wife can influence Vidic, he has balls the size of grapefruits. Are you listening David Beckham?

And I'll bet he does, too.

I didn't want you to think I was picking on you. I am sure you are not a misogynistic person, it's just that I think a lot of men, and a lot of industries, sport in particular are riddled with a really crappy attitude towards women. Treating them more as objects than as people.

If more young men stood up and adopted a different attitude then the world would definitely be a better place.

I definitely agree with you that you see very hot women with some very ugly men if they are wealthy or successful but it just makes me feel sorry for both of them. Him because he must know that it's only his wealth or success that attracts her and her because she is essentially whoring herself out. Gross.

Whether this is the Vidic's situation is any one's guess. As far as we know they are genuinely in love on both sides. In which case her happiness must play a big part. I know if my wife was miserable because of where we lived for my job and I could easily go elsewhere and make the same or more money then I would move for her. Likewise though i am sure if she knew it was important to me to stay she'd continue to make the sacrifice.

I am glad for Utd's sake that Vidic is not contemplating leaving. He's a rock for us and at his age has many more great years ahead of him.

I'd like to see what happens though if Madrid or Barca put a 30 to 40M bid on the table. For a centre half Fergie may be tempted to sell.

That's an absolutely ridiculous translation of what he said.. All things said, it's a great thing for United and us fans.. but you have to understand the turmoil it might bring in his life..

Family is very important, footballer or not.. to ask someone to change the way the look at their life, is very very tough.. more than vida's cojones, i admire his tact in dealing with the situation..

Imagine a scenario where his wife leaves him, or is completely unhappy and they have huge personal problems.. that's surely bound to affect his performances..

He's treading a very thin line, and I hope his wife sees how much he is loved, admired and respected here, and make some changes in the way she feels.. the keyword being hope.. not demand.. or expect...
