The Daily Star agrees that United's next signing will be coming from Ligue 1, but insists it will be 23-year-old Toulouse striker Andre-Pierre Gignac, rather than Benzema. The £11m-rated forward was the top scorer in the French top flight last term, bagging 24 goals.
Not saying it won't happen but I've seen a ton of those player profiles before. I've seen them posted for all kinds of huge names like Figo, Torres, and others. I think it's some programmer or something that works for the club screwing with supporters.
That said though I've heard the rumors. I watch almost no French footy. I used to try and catch some Lyon matches to watch Benzema but that's about it.
I am always hesitant to say anyone's goal tally on a lesser club is unimpressive or a sign they won't score 20+ for us, because how many can anyone score on Stoke City or teams that aren't offensive marvels? Sometimes 7 goals on a bad team is even more impressive than 17 on a great side.
I don't know enough about Gignac to make an opinion, but my mind is open to him.
